Wonderous Wonder - Novel Study

 Kia Ora Bloggers,

For Reading, we have been doing novel studies. There were four options. They were Fing, Gangsta Granny, Wonder and Danny the Champion of the World. I chose to do Wonder as I haven't read the book before. I really enjoyed the book and I would recommend it.

We had a booklet to work through and, in the booklet, there were comprehension questions and activities to do for each part of the book. I only did a few tasks but I think that I did them really well.

Have you read Wonder before?

These are the activities put onto a slide.

Splendid Scratch

 Kia Ora Bloggers,

For Cybersmart we have been learning how to use scratch.

On Thursday our task was to make a game to help our siblings entertain themselves. I made a game called Balloon Pop where a balloon randomly pops up somewhere on the screen and when you click the balloon and the balloon pops and another pops up somewhere. To start press the green flag at the top and to stop press the red octagon at the top of the screen.

I thought that this was really fun and I would do it again.

Have you ever used Scratch before? What did you make?

If you what to play my game you can here. Comment your high score so others can try to beat it!

Spectacular Speeches

 Kia Kora bloggers,

At home this term, we have been writing our speeches to compete for a position in the Belfast Speech Comp. Before we got to go the competition,  we had to read the speech in front of our home base, (about  25 people), then 5 of the best speeches to read in front of our hub, (about 132 people), and then one Yr 5 and one Yr 6 have the opportunity to go tho the Belfast speech Competition.

My speech was on pronunciation and I presented it in front of the home base on Tuesday and in front of the hub today (Friday).

I was really nervous, but it turned out that it wasn't so bad after all.

Have you ever written a speech before? If so what was it about?

Amazing Athletics

 Kia Ora bloggers,

This term we have been training for athletics. The activities we have been training for are Long Jump, High Jump, Sprints, AShotput and Discuss. My favourite is Long Jump as that is the sport I am best at. My longest jump is about 2.97m.

Last Monday we had Athletics day. Athletics day is when we do all of the sports we trained for and get them measured. I got 2.65m in Lomg Jump, and 90cm in High jump. I don't know my results for Discuss and Shotput. We didn't have enough time to do Sprints that day too we did it on Thursday and I got 5th out of 5 runners in my heat.

What are your favourite sports out of these?

This is the set of instructions we had to follow:

This is my finished emoji:

If you did this task do you think your emoji would look the same as mine?

Overall I think that I have done really well and I quite enjoyed drawing this emoji.

My Scientific Investigation - Part 2

 Kia Ora Bloggers,

For Inquiry, this term or big question is: How changing conditions can impact foods and how this can be managed for food preservation. For this topic, we have been doing a science experiment about mould, the Mouldy Apple Experiment, and now I am doing one where I wipe bread on different surfaces and see which one moulds the quickest.

Here is my experiment day 1 and 2,

What do you know about mould? I would love to know!
Ka Kite, see you next time!

Lockdown Madness

 Kia Ora Bloggers,

How have you been surviving lockdown? Well, I have been coping well. Today I had a lot of fun.

This morning I drew a dolphin with my sister and my Mum.

Afterwards we had lunch (pasta) and went on a 17.41km bike ride in the forest.
This lockdown we have done 16 walks and bikes in Bottle Lake Forest. Altogether we have done 164km. (This includes walking and biking.) I like lockdown because school still starts at 9:30 and I don't have to leave the house at 8:30! I also really like to be able to go out for walks and bike rides during school hours. Also smimming lessons are cancelled which is a bonus!
What have you liked about lockdown? How have you been keeping yourself entertained?
I would love to know!
Ka Kite see you next time!

10 Minuite free writing

Kia Ora bloggers welcome back to my blog,

As you know we are currently in lockdown, and we have had to use Google Meet to talk to our teachers and get our tasks for the day.

Yesterday we started off our lesson with our teacher showing us a picture and, we had to write a story about it. This is my story:

The Christchurch Earthquake - Infomation report

Kia Ora bloggers,

This week during literacy there were five disasters to choose from and then we had chosen one to write an information report about. The 5 options were Cave Creek, Christchurch Earthquake, Rainbow Warrior, Green Peace and Tangawai Railway disaster. I chose to do the February 22nd Christchurch Earthquake.

I think I did really well writing my report.

If you want to read it here it is.

AMAZING Winter Sport ๐Ÿ‘

 Kia Ora Bloggers,

Welcome back to my blog.

Last week the Korimako hub started Winter Sport. There were so many different options for us to choose from. There was Netball, Ki O Rahi (a Maori game), Gardening, Table Tennis, Rugby, Bowls, Hockey, Football and Capture The Flag.

I chose to do netball. We then hopped on a bus that took us to Rafiti and we then walked to the netball courts. There were 4 Yr 5-6 teams. All of the Yr 5-6 teams won. We played against South New Brighton and we won 9-7.

Overall I thought that it was a really successful game, and I'm looking forward to playing again soon.

I'll see you next time I post a blog!

Ka Kite!

EPro-8 Qualifying Challenge

Kia ora bloggers, Last week I trialled for the EPro-8 comp. The EPro8 Challenge is an inter-school science and engineering competition. There were 2 tasks. One was Rock Band where you had to make a drumbeat from 2 meters away without touching it. The other one was the School Bag where you were put in groups of 4 and you had to use the heavest school bag in our group and build a structure the was 500mm off the ground and you couldn't touch it. We decided to do Schoolbag and we used Amelia's bag. We made it like some scaffolding.  The second part of the task was to put all of the group's bags on the scaffolding and they couldn't touch each other. Some of the people who did it last year chose who would go into the teams.
There were 9 spots available and we had 17 people who wanted to do it. How many tasks you completed determined how many points you got. Our team got 110 points.
I got in a team!! ๐Ÿ™‚
The next week there was a challenge that you had to do in your teams. It was a qualifying challenge.
The task was to make a famous landmark and launch party poppers from 3 different directions. I was in a team with Tayla, Matt and Hamish. We made the Taj Mahal.  We only had 6 hours to make it.
This is a video of our completed task.

We used about 2 bags of party poppers before we got it right. I think we did really well.
Was there something like the EPro-8 challenge when you were at school?

WW1 Christmas truce

 Kia Ora Bloggers,

This week and last week for literacy we have been learning about ANZAC day. Our task this week was to watch the videos and read the text about the WW1 Christmas truce. Once we had read and watched what we needed to we had to write a report about it.

I have enclosed my report so you can have a read-through. I haven't quite finished it yet.

I used google docs to create this and I used Mrs. Kerin's pieces of text to get the information from.
I don't usually enjoy learning about history but I enjoyed learning about this topic.
Did you learn anything from my report? I would love to know what you learned!

The Genie of the Lamp

 Kia Ora bloggers!

This term I've been involved in the production. This year the production is Aladdin. There were lots of characters and I became a side-main character. I am Manal, Jasmine's handmaiden.

When we aren't in the scene that is practicing, we have to work on a google slide. On this slide, we have lots of activities that we can do.  I have attached this slide so you can see all of the activities.

The activity I decided to do was creating a pixel art of my favorite character. I chose to do the Genie.
This is my almost finished Pixel Art.
I haven't finished my lamp quite yet, but next time I post you will probably see the finished product.
Have you watched the movie Aladdin? Have you ever been in a production before?

Fun ANZAC Day activities

 Kia Ora bloggers!

Welcome back to my blog! In literacy for weeks 1, 2, and 3 we have been delving a bit deeper into ANZAC day. Do you know what ANZAC stands for? We have to complete a minimum of 7 tasks in the 3 weeks we have got to complete them. I have enclosed my slide with all of the activities we could do, the activities I have completed, and the stories on it. You can have a look at it and do some of the activities too.

I found it quite interesting learning about Gallipoli. Did you know that all of the countries have mascots and they are all live animals? I didn't know that!

Learning to write a e-mail

 Kia Ora bloggers!

Today we learned how to write a professional email.

Our first task was to write an email to our homebase teacher about weather or not we would like to have pets on public transport. I said yes because when I go on a bus in the future I would like to bring my dog with me.

This is my e-mail I sent to Miss Roberts. I have labeled all of the different parts on a professional email.

Have you written a professional email before? If you have who did you email?

Tsunami play with Holly, Amelia, Lucy and I

 Hello Bloggers!

For literacy this week we have had half an hour to do some freewriting each morning and Holly, Lucy, Amelia and I are working on a play together. It is just a draft so it is not finished yet.

This is our draft. Child 1 is Amelia, Child 2 is Lucy, Tsunami 1 is Amelia, Tsunami 2 is Amelia, Tsunami 3 is Amelia, and I am the narrator.

I think this is a pretty good draft for us as I have never written a play before.
Do you have any feedback for me? I will take them and use your feedback to make it better.

Who is your favourite Korimako teacher? ๐ŸŽ“

Hello bloggers,

A couple of days ago in maths we were told to think of a question like  favourite colour, favourite food, sport or something like that. My question was who is your favourite Korimako teacher. (As you have probably already figured out.) Then make a google form about it and then send it out to all the people in Korimako. And finally once we had got all the answers we had to put them into a graph.
This is my form if you want to fill it out you can

Did you fill it out?
If you did who did you pick?
Do you have any feedback to me for my form?

My Pepeha

Kia Ora bloggers

Today for Te Reo we made a digital copy of our pepeha that we started yesterday.
We were given a lot of links and sources that we could use to make a digital copy of our pepeha.
They were Pepeha.nz, Google slides, Scratch, Gamefroot, Google Tour Builder, Screencastify, Book Creator, Puzzle Maker and there was Flipgrid aswell but we couldn't use it because the teachers hadn't set it up yet. I used Pepeha.nz.
This is my Pepeha. This is a link to Maori Dictionary so you will understand what it means.

Do you know what a pepeha is?
If you do great! If you don't catch up on your Maori culture. No just kidding, a pepeha is when you introduce yourself to someone in Maori.

First you start off with your Mountain/Maunga. My mountain was Mt Hutt because my family go skiing there every winter.
Next you do a river/awa near you or that you relate to.My river was the Rapaki river because it flows off Mt Hutt.
An then you do your tribe/iwi. (What country you belong to because back then you belonged to the land not the land belonged to you.) My tribe is Aeoteroea (New Zealand) because I have lived here my whole life.
Next you introduce your family. Alun (Dad), Carolyn (Mum) and Zoe (sister) are my family. Well and my dog Mika but I didn't add her in because she is not a person.

My dog Mika

Then you introduce yourself because the people from other tribes might be able to link you to people they know by you telling them your last name but I didn't add that in here because of CYBERSAFTEY.
My name is Izzy so I put in Izzy because Ko Izzy toku ingua (My name is Izzy)

Well now you know that may be able to make your own pepeha!
While you go and make your pepeha I will be writing my next post for you to read!

Noho iho rฤ see you next time!

Google Docs Scavenger Hunt ๐Ÿ™‚

 Welcome back Bloggers!

Today is the second day of school since the 6 week holidays and we have been given the task of a Google Docs scavenger hunt. You must be wondering what that is so I will tell you.

A Google Docs scavenger hunt is when you complete a series of questions that remind your mind where and what the Google Doc tools are.

This is my completed scavenger hunt.

Do you know all the answsers to the questions? Are you sure?
Well if you're sure...

It took me a while because my mind is used to the holidays. The good thing is that I got 9/10!
The one I got wrong was #5 .I did 5 collums and 3 rows instead of 3 collums and 5 rows.
Everything else I got right! ๐Ÿค—

Why don't you go through it and see if you can do it and get all the answers right?

While you do that I'll be writing my next post for you to read.

See you next time!
